Honolulu Rail Transit Kalauao Station @ Pearlridge

THe Kamehameha Highway Station Group Stations

AVA’s Role: Anil Verma Associates, Inc. (AVA) served as the prime consultant for the Kamehameha Highway Station Group (KHSG) contract, which included Pearl Highlands Station, Pearlridge Station, Aloha Stadium Station, and the H2R2 Ramp. AVA’s scope of services varied by station: at Pearl Highlands Station, AVA performed the Architectural, Structural, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) engineering-design services; at Pearlridge Station, AVA performed Architectural-Engineering Design Services; and at Aloha Stadium Station, AVA performed Project Management. Civil, landscape, and other engineering services were provided locally. The broader HART project comprises a 20-mile, grade-separated fixed-guideway transit system extending between East Kapolei and Ala Moana.

Description:   The KHSG contract comprised three complex aerial stations — Pearl Highlands, Pearlridge, and Aloha Stadium — and the H2R2 freeway ramp. AVA’s specific scope of services at each station is set forth in AVA’s Role, above.

Pearlridge station

Pearlridge Station’s platform structure spans over the thirty (30) foot wide concourse bridge which connects to the at-grade station entrance structures located on either side of Kamehameha Highway. A Traction Power Substation (TPSS) and a separate ancillary building housing the train control and communications room are on the site. Other equipment rooms are located on the parcel containing the Makai entrance building. The station entrance structures are connected to the platforms by this elevated pedestrian concourse bridge which straddles Kamehameha Hwy several levels above the street. The site design includes site landscaping, construction of both TPSS station ancillary facilities, driveways, site drainage and utility service connected at an interface point coordinated with the guideway design-build contractor.
