LACMTA – Metro Harbor Subdivision Transit Corridor, Los Angeles, CA

AVA’s Role: Anil Verma Associates, Inc. (AVA) contributed to the urban design studies for the Harbor Subdivision Transit Corridor. AVA evaluated urban design concepts and elements, station-area planning issues, and potential transit-oriented development opportunities and documented its findings in technical reports. AVA also coordinated a series of meetings with the cities along the proposed alignment to identify community priorities and determine how the project could best serve each jurisdiction. Based on the information gathered, AVA developed urban design and station-area planning concepts for Metro’s use in broader public outreach meetings.

Description: The Harbor Subdivision Transit Corridor consists of a Metro-owned railroad and right-of-way that was operating as a freight line. Metro evaluated the introduction of passenger transit service along the corridor, including potential extensions beyond the Metro-owned segments. An Alternatives Analysis was conducted to evaluate transportation planning and urban design considerations and to identify a preferred alignment and recommended station locations.
