BART – General Engineering Services for BART Projects Agreement No. 6M8043, Station Access, Path and Wayfinding Improvements – Dublin/Pleasanton, North Concord, Pittsburgh/Baypoint, & San Bruno Stations
Station Access, Path and Wayfinding Improvements
AVA’s Role: Anil Verma Associates, Inc. (AVA), as prime consultant, led its subconsultant team in providing engineering and design services for accessibility improvements at four BART stations. The work included retrofitting ADA-compliant parking spaces, sidewalks, curb ramps, passenger drop-off areas, taxi parking, kiss-and-ride zones, bus-loading areas, bus shelters, site lighting, tactile domes, accessible paths, and wayfinding features. AVA prepared final engineering drawings by updating BART’s existing CAD documents and also developed technical specifications and engineering cost estimates for competitive bidding. AVA further provided Design Services During Construction (DSDC).
Description: The improvements were located within public areas immediately outside the station fare gates and were designed to improve passenger accessibility and comply with applicable state and federal Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. Portions of the work were required in response to an FTA ADA Station Assessment completed in September 2011 at Dublin/Pleasanton, North Concord/Martinez, Pittsburg/Bay Point, and San Bruno Stations.
