Division 11 Blue Line Maintenance Facility Expansion Design/Build Project, Contract No. C0717

AVA’s Role:  Anil Verma Associates, Inc. (AVA) provided architectural design services for the expansion of LACMTA’s existing Division 11 Blue Line Light Rail Maintenance Facility. AVA served as part of the contractor-led design-build team and worked within the project’s design group. Because the facility and yard remained operational throughout construction, AVA developed its design and coordination approach to support the expansion while minimizing impacts to ongoing rail maintenance and yard operations.

Description: AVA The project expanded the existing maintenance facility serving the Los Angeles–Long Beach Blue Line light-rail system Improvements included expansion of the paint shop, storage track Overhead Catenary System (OCS), ancillary facilities, and additional trackwork to increase the yard’s train-storage capacity. The design team reviewed existing site conditions and observed Metro Blue Line operations to determine the most effective approach for implementing the improvements. AVA addressed construction sequencing and staging in detail to maintain safe operations and support efficient project delivery. Site access for debris removal, material deliveries, and construction activities was carefully planned to help maintain the project schedule and avoid costly disruptions. All new construction was staged to minimize interference with the facility’s ongoing rail operations and maintenance activities.
