AVA’s Role: Anil Verma Associates, Inc. (AVA) served as part of the engineering design team responsible for preparing plans, specifications, and estimates for the Norwalk Metrolink Commuter Rail Station in Los Angeles County. The station formed part of the Southern California Regional Rail Authority’s approximately 400-mile Metrolink commuter rail network. AVA’s responsibilities included structural engineering and cost estimating.
Description: The Norwalk Metrolink Commuter Rail Station includes passenger station facilities, parking for more than 300 vehicles, pedestrian walkways and bridges, elevators, site lighting, and landscaping. A prominent long-span structural steel pedestrian bridge crosses four sets of railroad tracks with approximately 28 feet of vertical clearance and connects the two side platforms. The bridge serves as a major architectural and structural focal point within the station area.
