AVA’s Role: Anil Verma Associates, Inc. (AVA) prepared preliminary engineering construction contract documents and served as the owner’s representative for landscape design for this 14-mile Bus Rapid Transit design-build corridor connecting the North Hollywood Metro Rail Station with Warner Center in the San Fernando Valley. Under an earlier contract, AVA developed conceptual site plans for 75 potential light-rail station sites along five alternative alignments, evaluated the visual impacts of the stations and connecting corridor segments, identified joint-development opportunities, and prepared station site plans and technical reports. The bus rapid transit corridor was designed to accommodate future conversion to light rail. AVA coordinated the preliminary engineering design with architects, engineering consultants, and LACMTA throughout the full length of the corridor, and the work supported the ongoing EIS/EIR process. AVA presented its design concepts to numerous community and civic organizations and achieved consensus on the proposed design. Particular attention was given to selecting native, drought-tolerant vegetation compatible with the transit corridor. AVA prepared the contract bid documents and provided construction-support services throughout the design-build phase.

Description: The project consists of a 14-mile dedicated, high-speed bus corridor constructed along a former railroad alignment. The corridor includes 12 stations and provides a vital transit connection between the North Hollywood Metro Rail Station and Warner Center in the San Fernando Valley. Along its route, the corridor connects commercial, educational, religious, residential, recreational, and transportation facilities.
