Community-Centric Design and Leadership
Description: As part of the continued expansion of the George A. Caravalho Santa Clarita Sports Complex, the City is developing a roller-skating rink to provide an additional active-recreation amenity for the community. The proposed facility includes a fully covered skating area, shaded spectator seating, lockers, event areas, a four-sided hip roof, surrounding hardscape and landscape improvements, security cameras, specialty lighting, a sound system with multiple speakers and input connections, Wi-Fi access, a private audio booth, and a drinking fountain. The design team is also evaluating an enclosed building option that would include restrooms, event rooms, HVAC systems, and solar panels. The project site is located within the larger park adjacent to the sports complex gymnasium, basketball courts, gazebos, and an existing parking lot. AVA’s design emphasizes public safety, accessibility, and integration with the surrounding recreational facilities. The proposed rink is planned to complement the existing complex while addressing the needs of children, older adults, and individuals with mobility challenges. The design also promotes the environmental health and long-term sustainability of the site.
