AVA’s Role
AVA prepared landscape construction documents, specifications, and performed construction administration services during implementation for a creek / habitat restoration project in San Jose. As part of the storm water mitigation for the Berryessa Extension project extending from Fremont to San Jose with stations in Milpitas and San Jose, AVA, as part of the design build team, served as the architect or record, landscape architect, and engineer for the stations, street crossings, and the Upper Penitencia Creek Wetland Mitigation project.
Description
As part of the $780 million dollar BART extension project, AVA provided architectural design for two heavy rail station in Milpitas and San Jose. In addition to the station campus and street crossings, VTA was required to provide storm water mitigation. Upper Penitencia Creek was completely renovated changing the site from a narrow channelized storm drain channel to an open, wide, beautiful, creek with restoration of new habitats for native plants and indigenous animals. Log retaining walls, enhanced storm outfall areas, rock outcroppings, and plantings propagated from source materials within a 10 mile radius of the site were incorporated into Landscape Architectural Construction documentation were prepared by AVA. The drawings and final implementation was reviewed and approval by several agencies including BART, VTA, Army Corp of Engineers, F&G, the City of San Jose, and utility agencies. AVA performed design services during construction and helped achieved approvals for final installation.
