AVA’s Role
AVA is the Lead Landscape Architect for the Crenshaw / LAX Light Rail Transit Corridor. Along with providing site design and landscape design for (7) new station areas, landscape designs were prepared for Park and Ride facilities, streetscape frontages along Crenshaw, and screening of wayside facilities. The new rail alignment runs through the culturally rich neighborhoods of Crenshaw, Inglewood, and Westchester. Through a comprehensive community participation and outreach process, the design team has actively engaged the community through an integrated approach that was coordinated in (4) main areas: Urban Design and Community Linkages; Station Area Planning; Alignment Landscape and Streetscape Design; and Maintenance Facility Landscape and Community Integration Grading and Drainage was a very important part of this project.
Description
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is planning transit improvements in the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor to accommodate demand for travel in the north-south and east-west directions. The alignment is approximately 8-1/2 miles long. These improvements will provide more direct service between downtown Los Angeles and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and important connections between the Crenshaw corridor and downtown Los Angeles, the Westside, and the South Bay
