AVA’s Role

AVA is the prime consultant on this five (5) year multiple discipline contract. The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) heavy rail system commenced service on its first 28-mile section in September 1972. It has grown to 104 miles to serving Alameda, San Francisco, San Mateo and Contra Costa Counties and is currently being extended toward San Jose in Santa Clara County. The system is now approaching forty (40) years of service. Although modernization and upgrade projects have been in progress since the 1990’s the system is in continual need of further repair, modernization and upgrade to meet the needs of the expanding system and the growth in ridership. Accordingly, AVA’s assembled a qualified and highly experienced multi-disciplinary team to meet BART’s ongoing needs.

Description

AVA team includes several highly specialized transit sub consultants who will assist and advise BART in engineering, procurement activities and related issues.  Tasks include Lake Merritt BART Operations Central Center, Hayward Maintenance Facility Buildings, Station Upgrades, BART Wayside Support, BART VTA Projects Design Review, Oakland Airport Connector Support/Modification of Doolittle Drive and Design, Construction, and Installation Oversight for BART Oakland Airport Connector. Scope of the contract includes the following tasks:

    1. Facilities (Stations and Buildings)
    2. Mainline and Yard Infrastructure
    3. Facilities (Yards and Shops)
    4. Automatic Fare Collection
    5. Operations Control Center
    6. Parking & Intermodal Access
    7. Transit Power & Control Systems
    8. Computer Hardware and Software
    9. Controls & Communications
    10. Rail Vehicle Support
