AVA’s Role

The Silicon Valley BART Extension (SVBX) is a federally funded Design-build project, which will extend BART Heavy Rail System from Warm Springs to Berryessa in San Jose. The (10) mile section encompasses the Milpitas and Berryessa Stations and their adjoining facilities, and AVA is responsible for Planning, Design and Construction Support to the Joint Venture team of Skanska, Shimmick, & Herzog Construction Contractors.

AVA will provide Design Services including Architecture, Landscape, Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering for the Milpitas Station, the Pedestrian Bridge, Bus Transit Center, Parking Structure, Bike Storage/Bus Operators Facility, and the Wayside Facilities. As Architect and Engineers of Record for this section, AVA will coordinate with the Skanska, Shimmick, & Herzog Construction Contractors team, produce the final design construction documents, and provide construction support services for the duration of this Design-build project.

Description

The Milpitas station is situated on a 27-acre campus, consisting of the grade level concourse with the below grade split level boarding platforms. A pedestrian over-crossing bridge will connect the station to the existing elevated VTA light rail station. The station campus consists of a 16-bus bay transit center, the bike storage/bus operators facility, and the station related ancillary facilities.
